Arts Tower Stairs University of Saskatchewan
ADA was commissioned to replace the ARTS Tower escalator with a cast-in-place concrete staircase. Environmental concerns and user friendliness were primary design priorities. ADA responded to these challenges by specifying fly ash in the concrete mix, low VOC epoxy terrazzo with recycled mirror aggregate and a double handrail system that will accommodate adults and children.
Unique design details such as a polished concrete border between the terrazzo stairs and the existing concrete wall and sandblasting the new concrete to match the existing result in a structure that appears to have been part of the original building.
The project was completed within the allowable time and is a positive addition to the Arts Tower.
